CERT Basic Training
This training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training and practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to protect yourself and do the greatest good for the greatest number after a disaster.

All CERT participants should take the CERT Basic Training course. This 24 hour classroom course is provided free to new CERT members by the Palm Beach County - Division of Emergency Management . Graduates are provided with basic equipment and supplies for basic CERT operations. For further information call (561) 712-6400.

The CERT Basic Training Participant Manual (PDF 344p) provides the basic skills necesary to conduct CERT operations. The manual's 6 chapters include hands-on training in: No prerequisites for this course.

Recommended training and additional reading
CERT training is defined by the National Incident Management System (NIMS), a part of the FEMA:Emergency Management Institute and by the FCC & American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

This training may include formal classroom studies, on-line courses, reading material, practice drills and exercises as defined in the NCA Course Catalog.

Basic radio training
Three courses are currently available as basic training for CERT radio operators.
Portable Radio Fundamentals for CERT Emergency Operations is available for all ICP and Contact Team operators using portable handheld radios.
Network Operations for CERT Emergency Operations is available for all ICP radio operators using the Level 2 Intra Indian Spring Network.
FEMA: CERT Emergency Communications is available for all ICP radio operators using the Level 2 Intra Indian Spring Network.
